If memory serves, we all knew Clarence Thomas really wasn’t a good guy from the beginning. Why was no one paying attention to him since he got confirmed? Didn’t somebody once say “the cost of freedom is eternal vigilance”? Didn’t someone else say “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely”?
Clearly, the USG needs more oversight across the board but with SCOTUS the most, since they have basically NO oversight.
Powerful people need to be watched because they will take advantage. This is basic human nature. We, The People, need a way to impeach any elected or appointed government official. Voting for “good people” isn’t enough—because you never know who will be corrupted (though sometimes we definitely do know).
I’m sure that I’m not the only one exhausted from decades of watching corrupt politicians on both sides of the aisle do nothing to stop bad things from happening, or worse, actively do things to harm not just American freedom but also human lives.
We need to stop pretending that the Founding Fathers were Gods and start making real changes to our government. We need a Fourth Branch of Government—the Oversight and Accountability Branch.
This branch would hold national referendums that all American citizens would vote in. These referendums would not be to elect anyone but to remove them from office. There would be no equivalent to the Electoral College. We’d all get one vote and it would count equally from sea to shining sea.
Enough with the deeply and obviously flawed idea that people in power can police themselves. America has gone off the rails in so many ways and it’s time we started talking about it openly and rationally.
